What do you picture when someone talks about being healthy? Many of us will assume that means keeping our weight in check. If we're skinny we're living healthy right? Well, not so much the case.

We can be very skinny and have major health problems. On the contrary to popular belief, we can be very overweight and actually be a lot healthier than would be assumed just by looking at us. Sort of goes by the old saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover". Size doesn't fully relate to the state of our inner health.

So what is healthy living?

Healthy living depends a lot on what you are fueling your body with. You can eat little food consisting of pasta, pastries, bread, or chips and chocolate. While your body may maintain a healthy weight, your body will be deteriorating inside and crying for help.

When you choose to snack on healthy choices, you can eat many small meals throughout the day. Choosing salads, or high protein foods, you'll never be hungry or feel dissatisfied.

Eat fruits like strawberries to get that bit of sweetness, and still enjoy your desert at night. Your craving will be settled and your body will thank you.

Of course we must not forget the good H20! We all know water is the best for our bodies, no matter what we consume.

As our bodies are 50-60% made up of water, we must always drink enough through the day. Not only does it feed our muscles, our bloodstreams, and our brain, but it cleanses everything in between.

Being healthy isn't just about food

Let's face it. Even with the healthiest diet, if we sit and watch television all day every day, we are not going to be any healthier than the person eating junk food and going for their walks.

Exercise no matter how small, is good for us. This does not mean you have to go to a gym and work out for hours just to stay fit. It has been proven that even a 10 minute burst of exercise can have health benefits.

Whether a brisk walk, or doing jumping jacks. Indoor cardio, or dancing for 10 minutes, this can drastically improve your health, when done on a regular basis. Raising your heart rate, strengthens your heart, and gets the oxygen flowing through your body.

Who would've thought that dancing around being silly in your own living room, could be just as beneficial as going to the gym!

Routines to start now to improve your health

Keep track of your water intake... 8 glasses a day is recommended. However, even a glass of water in the morning, and prior to each meal, will start improving and purifying your body.

Get a good nights rest... getting a full nights sleep each night has more health benefits than you can imagine. Staying up late, even for one night, throws off the rest of your week. Going to bed on an inconsistent routine can literally take years off your life in the long term.

Exercise, or dance... anything that gets your heart racing counts towards cardio, improving blood circulation, and your body's oxygen and strength. Anything from dancing, to swimming, to sex. If it gets your heart rate up, it's working in your favor!

Clear your space... ever realize how a hotel room has minimal decor ? Having a clean, organized space, helps us focus and recharge. This applies to home, office and our devices. Less clutter, more clarity.

Meditate... start with small amount of time and work your way up. Let your mind be quiet, focus on your present moment, and become aware of your thoughts. It's only once there is silence, that we can find ourselves and find the answers to what we need. Meditation also helps to improve memory, reduce stress and strengthen immunity.

Full Circle

Staying healthy is a commitment. Physically, mentally, and spiritually. It is a full circle, a matter of balance. Take pride in your health, and live a long life as your best version!
