Mindset and your perspective

Mindset and your perspective

How are you looking at things?

What is the link between your mindset and your perspective?, your thoughts and how you view things?

Have you ever asked a number of people about an event, or situation, and got a whole lot of different opinions? This is because each of us have a unique perspective in life.

Considering the fact that we have many variables, in the environments which you grow up in, it is no wonder so many of us have conflicting views on how things should be. Values and morals, play a large part in determining your mindset and your perspective on things.

Depending on what mindset you were in at the time, you can reflect on a situation as either positive or negative. So when you think of your daily attitude, what is it like? Do you tend to look towards the bright side of things, or focus on what could go wrong?

If you tend to focus on the negative it is natural and you are not alone. However, there are ways you can program yourself to see the good of each day.

How to change the way you see things?

Step away from the negative.

Are you consistently listening to the news, catching up on the latest gossip, or watching absolute junk on TV? If that is what you feed your mind, how can you possibly expect your mind to focus on anything else?

We need to be aware of what we consume because that teaches us how to think. Our mind gets tricked to thinking that life is a big disaster, if that is all we spend our time watching .

Think about the bigger picture

So you’re freaking out, but how bad is it really?

You just got cut off in traffic and had to slam on your brakes. You are now wearing latte all over your lap and you’re headed to work. Little stressful right?, but how bad is it really? The accident was avoided, you weren’t injured (besides hot drink in your lap), and you won’t get fired over having coffee on you or being a little tardy in order to clean up.

Now think of the person driving the other vehicle. Maybe they didn’t see you. Maybe their heart jumped too. Perhaps they were up all night with a sick kid or they have a sick parent in the hospital. Are you still mad over the latte? I’m assuming those scenarios would change your whole perspective on the event.

You never truly know what’s going on in the big picture of life, but if you try to see a few points of view, you’ll see there’s many possible reasons and outcomes. You just need to breathe and evaluate.

Smile

Not only does smile brighten your own mood, but it also puts you in a more optimistic state. It is hard to stress and smile at the same time, so find your happy thought and start to reset the way you think about things!

The mindset is built by many factors

Each person has the ability to overcome and think for themselves. This is where the state of your mind, changes your perspective on everything you see.

I think about two sons growing up with an alcoholic parent. First one could grow up and never drink because of their parent, and the second one could become an alcoholic the same reason. Different perspective, different mindset.

How about children raised in poverty and crime. One may work his way through school and get a great career, being the first person in his neighborhood to break the chain. Meanwhile the other child goes on believing crime and property are all they’ll ever have.

We must sit back and think about why we look at things the way we do, where have we picked up the habits? How do we flip the script and focus on the positive. Think outside your comfort zone, break open the box. What are your morals and beliefs, and how many of them still fit your life? Which ones need reprogramming in order to go from a fixed mindset, to a growth mindset.

Being stubborn and stuck in your ways, can’t help you grow. Change is good and our perspectives help adjust to life’s changes. Your future is counting on it.

My dad used to tell me " look for the silver lining". As a kid, I never knew what that meant. Now I know that if we look, we can find the good in any situation. If not good, then at least a lesson to help us grow.

Start looking for what lessons or small wins are coming out of each day. You will find your life improving and your opportunities growing.
